Prepare to meet your God - Heaven or Hell
Are you prepared to meet God. One of the most famous sermons ever preached was titled "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" preached by Jonathan Edwards, a prominent Calvinist Congregational minister in 1741. The main focus of this sermon was introduced by Deut. 32:35 says.. "Their foot shall slide in due time,". Though the first time Jonathan Edwards preached it there was little reaction the second time brought widespread weeping, crying and convulsions from members of the congregation.
Gathering from the title; (1) are we sinners, (2) are we in God's hands and (3) is God an angry God.
First the Bible says that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Everyone is a sinner because we all have sinned in our lives. Lets be truly frank. Have you ever said a lie, even one that you may call a little white lie? Have you ever stolen or taken anything from anyone, your parents, friends, employer, etc? Have you ever had any angry word with someone or broken any law such as speeding on the highway? Have you ever not obeyed a parent , an employer or anyone who asked you to do something? Honestly you probably would not be able to count all the times you have done something that God labels as sin; which means that you have sinned. But; even if it was possible that you only ever sinned once in God's eyes or standards you are still a sinner.
Are we in God's hand? God created all things from the universe, the stars, the planets and their orbits down to the smallest particles. He created all living beings, seasons, time, and much more. Since he created life He also controls death. He literally holds us in His hand and at any moment can cause us to be no more, at any time of His choosing.
Now is God an angry God. Well God does hate sin and we are all sinners, but does God then hate us. God created us in His image and the Bible says that God loves us. God does hate sin but not the sinner. God cannot bear sin and does not want us to sin but He loves the person. This is why He sent Jesus Christ to earth. Someone had to pay for sin and since Jesus is God and is sinless he came and would pay for our sin by His death on the cross. By this Jesus paid for all our sin by the sacrifice of Himself. He then rose again three days later and is now with His Father in the Heavenlies.
Jesus loved you so much He paid the penalty for all your sin past, present and future by the sacrifice of Himself on the cross. He did His part but it is up to you to accept that free gift He has given you. It is up to you to to come to Him, to tell Him that you know you are a sinner, to acknowledge that you now He ahs paid for your sin, to ask Him to forgive you for sinning against Him and to ask Him into your life. If you truly mean it from your heart, He will forgive you and receive you to Himself; then you will have eternal life with Him.
Yes, you are a sinner and yes you are in His hands. He is angry at sin and hates sin but He loves you so much and wants you to come to Him. Then you can have a relationship with Him like no other.
Rev. 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
